Week 30 2020.07.26

FOs: Since I haven’t posted in a year, I’m going to be doing some catch up in this section. I finished Xanthe forever ago and Castiel is my most recent FO.

Xanthe

Xanthe by Ambah

Yarns:

MC1: Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light in Fathom (navy)

MC2: Hedgehog Fibres Skinny Singles in Teacup (speckles on off white)

CC1: Countess Ablaze Tia Merino in Prohibition (pinky lace)

Needles: 4 mm (US 6)

Mods: None that I’m aware of. I didn’t aggressively block the shawl, so the lace portion is not as open as it could be.

Yardage: 1134 yards

Date Completed: 25 July 2019

Castiel

Castiel Hat by Woolly Wormhead

Yarn: Sugarplum Circus Merino DK in Starling

Needles: 3.5 mm and 3.75 mm Dyak Darn Pretty 3.5” interchangeables

Mods: I would have like to make it larger, but I ran out of yarn. Ideally it would have had 2 or 3 more pattern repeats, but lace is stretchy so I can wear it if my hair is down.

Yardage: 117 yards

Date Completed: 18 July 2019

WIPs:

Log Cabin Blanket

Yarn: Scraps, 4 ply held double

Needles: 5 mm Tulip 3.5” interchangeables

Spinning:

I have recently being learning how to spin. This is my third spin and my first on a supported spindle.

Planning:

3 in 1 Experiment

I’m working on a full size sweater swatch. The colours are a little crazy, especially for a garment. It’s not just a gauge swatch that’s required, but a colour swatch too. Might as well begin the sweater fully prepared to have to frog it all. The pattern is 3 in 1 by Atelier Alfa, the blue yarns are Madelinetosh Merino Light and the speckled colours are Hedgehog Fibres Skinny Singles.

FO: Hitchhiker Shawl

I’ve been trying to stick to a regular schedule, but if I did another WIPs Wednesday it would be a “look at the beads! There are more than last week!!” kind of thing. So here is something I finished, my Hitchhiker shawl.

FO Report:
Not Quite 42 Hitchhiker Shawl
Pattern: Hitchhiker by Martina Behm
Yarn: Hedgehog Fibres Twist Sock, 80% BFL 20% nylon
Needles: 3.5 mm
Yardage: 99.5 g / 395 yards

P1030700
Completed 29 January 2016

It is a simple, fun knit. I memorised that pattern quickly, it was a great take-with-me-anywhere project. This is my first FO with a speckled yarn. I really enjoyed the randomness of the colours. I can see why speckled yarns are so popular at the moment.

I wanted to make 42 pointed teeth, but I ran out of yarn after 38 teeth. It makes a great scarf that I can easily wear with my winter coat.

The little bit of yarn at the top is all that remained of my skein; less than 1 gram.
